If you've ever wanted to try your hand at making sushi -- but just haven't had a decade of training with a top Tokyo chef -- pharmaceutical company Kracie may have an alternative for you in the form of DIY candy sushi.

Popin' Cookin' is a range of products for anyone with a sweet tooth who needs to improve their creative culinary skills. And, perhaps, fool their friends.

Surprisingly, the edibles in the "just add water" range of garish fake foods, which also includes ramen, bento lunchboxes and ice cream options, are all made using natural coloring.

It's the pH levels in the mix that create the food illusions, we're led to believe.

The first instant candies of this type were actually launched in 1978, though the latest range is a considerable step forward, with the ingenious salmon roe (ikura) perhaps the most impressive and lifelike.

Popin' Cookin' is aimed at kids as a way to build kitchen knowledge and -- who knows? -- give them a push toward the door to a real sushi career.
