The Hughenden
The Hughenden's artsy credentials come from the fact that it's experienced life as a grand residence, Masonic Hall and ladies college in previous avatars.

A quirky hotel at the beginning of lovely Queen Street, The Hughenden is a cultural reference point on Sydney’s east side thanks to its literary and arts events.

Dating from the 1870s, the hotel includes a cute café and restaurant that draw Sydney residents prone to reflection. The bar's baby grand piano is played by a resident pianist on Thursday and Friday evenings, adding to the old-school atmospherics and filling the gap between cocktails, vino and talk.

Accommodations include 36 rooms and eight suites, including some pet-friendly spaces. Some rooms have balconies or access to courtyards.

The Hughenden's real marble fireplaces and original grand staircase give this Victorian manor house historical weight.

Ideal for perhaps a family reunion or other special occasion, The Hughenden can turn your half-baked party ideas into a respectable function, from cocktails for 20 in the salon to a full sit-down dinner.

The hotel is close to the city, a stroll away from the great boutiques of Oxford Street and Paddington, adjacent to Centennial Park and a brisk walk to the Sydney cricket ground and football stadium.
