Downstairs at The Commons---main
Downstairs at The Commons features live jazz and blues every Tuesday to Saturday.

The Commons first opened in 2010 as pop-up bar The Pond and was only supposed to be around for a few months. However, Sydneysiders took to it with gusto so it became a full-time bar and live music venue.

Situated in a renovated cottage that dates back 160 years (that's old for Sydney), the ground floor of The Commons is a restaurant and bar while the stone walled room Downstairs is the scene for live jazz and blues every Tuesday to Saturday.

There is also a private section that holds just 10 people called The Library, available for film nights, guest talks and even secret intimate gigs by touring musicians. There's a cute courtyard out the back, too.

The Commons is situated on a little road called Burton Street, running off the much busier nightlife drag of Oxford Street. Burton Street has become the new centre for cool in Sydney in just 18 months, with four new bars opening on the same block, including The Commons.
