7 best eco-friendly fashion brands in Shanghai
From raw silk womenswear to organic children's wear, these are the brands leading Shanghai's environmental shopping trend
As the world becomes increasingly aware of the unsustainable nature of modern textile manufacturing, people are looking at ways to make their wardrobe friendlier to Mother Nature.
As a self-claimed fashion center in Asia, Shanghai is already at the forefront of this universal eco-style movement.

If you’re a green fashion follower, these are the seven brands you shouldn't miss on your next big shopping day.
The brand: Finch was born out of Heather Kaye and Itee Soni's years of experience in the international fashion industry.
Disheartened by the environmental impact of the garment industry and the insatiable appetite for “fast fashion,” Kaye and Soni united to create a clothing brand that was committed to using organic and sustainable fabrics and making their supply chain as green (and transparent) as possible.
Finch is known for colorful, unique prints and quality that is made to last.
Prices: RMB 500 - RMB 1,200
The brand: Founded by Canadian former architect Sherry Poon, this Shanghai-based brand is specialized in sustainable baby clothes and was founded out of Poon's love for her two kids.
When Poon's second daughter was born in 2007, she wanted to make sure that what touched her child's skin was as natural and pure as possible. But it was virtually impossible to find any baby basics that were both organic and attractive in Shanghai.
In order to rectify this gap in the market, Poon decided to design and produce her own line of organic baby clothes.
Best for: Functional and stylish organic cotton children's wear which is ethically made in China.
Prices: RMB 80 - RMB 300 (for most pieces)

3. Snoozer Loser
The brand: Hand-dyed with natural pigments, Snoozer Loser's range of rompers, dresses, scarves, shorts and blouses are bold and fun.
Without losing the cool, its independent vibe has attracted an increasing number of customers since its founder, Sonia Tay, started designing one-off pieces for friends in Manhattan.
Snoozer Loser is a green antidote to Shanghai's monotonous fashion landscape.
Best for: Indie-feel eco-friendly clothing and accessories from overstock vintage fabrics and certified organic materials.
Prices: RMB 150 - RMB 800

The brand: This label is the product of joint China/Malaysian design collective WE ARE ULTRA and their mission is to combine sustainability with cutting-edge design.
These are fashion-forward basics for women who want to stand out from the fast fashion crowd.
Black and neutral are the fashionable shades, perfect for the working week or dinner and cocktails on the weekend.
