Shanghai 2010 Expo Pavilions: The good, the bad and the downright ugly

Shanghai 2010 Expo Pavilions: The good, the bad and the downright ugly

While there are some really impressive pavilion designs at this year's Expo, there are more than a few eyesores too. We round up the best and worst dressed
Here is just a short selection of some of the visual treats and architectural horrors (and presented in no particular order, but with bucket-loads of opinion) at the Shanghai Expo 2010.

The good...

Sweden's effort gets a big thumbs up with lots of angles. Arty and well, really cool looking.

The good...

Not quite sure how to describe this -- like a latice and beehive crossed with a holey-cheese. Or, something vaguely like Cappadocia. Either way, clearly memorable.

The ugly ...

Giant hardware stores have more appeal than the facade of Peru's contribution. Some would say you should never judge a pavilion by its cover. But when it looks like this we can't help it. While Peru might not be impressive on the outside, local Shanghai figure Eduardo Vargas is running the restaurant inside and is bringing in a new Peruvian chef each month. We've heard great things about the food.

The good...

Lots of layers, lots of colors. South Korea nails it in a cutesy candy store kind of way.

The bad ...

So that's where all my giant wood shavings went?

The bad...

Ankor Wat wallpaper. What every good home needs.

The ugly...

Reminded us of a scene near OK Corral. Or any old Hollywood studio backlot. Cue wind. Cue tumbleweeds.

The good...

Very funky. Very cool. And with a mermaid to boot! Actually the Little Mermaid came all the way from Copenhagen, Denmark, and is a hit with visitors with queues stretching back hours.

The good...

Israel's glass egg arty thing leaves a positive impression. Just make sure you are wearing sunglasses.

The bad ...

With all the beautiful angles and curves of a 1980s pick up truck, surely shedsRus.com could've delivered something better?

The good...

Actually, our favorite. The Netherlands proving they are well versed at cramming a lot into such a small space.

The ugly...

United Arab Emirates get a gong for bizarre design -- part frog's eyes, part crashed-landed UFO.
