3 ages of Shanghai: Past, present and future in hotel suites
Hotel Indigo launched three themed suites last September, representing Shanghai's past, present and future.
Three months later, the south Bund property is gaining a name for itself as Shanghai’s new destination for plush private parties.
According to the hotel’s communications executive Karina Huang, many of the suites' guests are 30-somethings celebrating special occasions, such as a wedding, anniversary or farewell party.
The suites have also become a popular choice for Chinese celebrities -- such as TV hosts Zhu Zhu (朱珠) and Kevin Tsai (蔡康永) -- to host media interviews.
Huang explained that the suites’ distinctive design characteristics and views are the key attractions for celebrities and socialites.
Shanghai's past, present and future
Each of the suites -- Shanghai Deco, Shanghai Glamour and Shanghai Future -- was created to reflect different periods of Shanghai, and supplies corresponding designs and views -- Yu Garden for the past, the Bund for present and Lujiazui skyline for future.
The suites were designed by HBA/Hirsch Bedner Associates, the design firm behind a number of high-end international hotels, including ESPA at The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong, Waldorf Astoria Shanghai, and The Peninsula New York.

“These suites provide our guest with more experience of different stories of Shanghai,” noted Huang.
All three suites are located on the eighth floor of the 31-story hotel, and the nightly rates start from RMB 10,000 for the Shanghai Deco (representing the past) to RMB 15,000 for Shanghai Future. (All rooms are subject to 15 percent service charge.)
