Divers' funny faces become the highlight of FINA World Championships
The 16-day FINA World Championships is making headlines around the world as it enters its second week.
China’s best section, diving, wrapped up yesterday with the final of men’s single 10-meter platform at Moon Bay Outdoor Diving Pool. Dark horse diver Qiu Bo (邱波) took home the gold with a total score of 585.45.
The victory of the 18-year-old Sichuannese not only broke the Chinese team’s curse of not winning a single world-class gold medal in this event over the past four years, but also bumped the team’s total gold medal number to 10 -- meaning China has topped every single diving event in the 14th FINA World Championships.

While the domestic media are focusing on their diving team’s unprecedented record, the rest of the world has also been impressed with FINA’s diving events, but not in the way you might expect.
A set of photos capturing the divers’ concentrated faces while diving has caused a buzz in the past few days.
It was first picked up by The Telegraph, then the Daily Mail and The Vancouver Sun.
Shanghai Sports Channel called it the gallery of “囧 faces” (“囧” is a Chinese Internet term, meaning awkward) when it featured some of the images on the news yesterday, as the divers vividly demonstrated the Chinese character 囧 with their faces.
For those looking for more of the same, this gallery showcases some "funny faces" fresh from yesterday’s men’s single 10-meter platform final.
