“Whether you call it lamian or pho, it does not make a difference because it is soup with noodles and it’s part of the Chinese mentality,” says Edwin Ng, director and owner of Club Vietnam.

Formerly called the FCC, Club Vietnam is Shanghai's high-end Vietnamese option and still the best place for a bowl of pho.

The dianping.com reviewers agree, citing pho as the number one dish to try at Club Vietnam.

In the last few years, several pho restaurants have popped up to serve Shanghai’s new obsession with pho. Dianping.com user “szoon” sums it up best: “The search for pho in Shanghai ends here.”

Don't be embarrassed to get two bowls -- the portions are a bit on the small side.

The flavors are anything but tiny. The beef stock is rich and beefy with a hint of basil and star anise. Squeeze some lemon onto your noodles to get the full effect.
