'Obama' nightclub opens its doors

Is Shanghai ready to party like the leader of the free world?

(Chemically-induced) change we can believe in.Our friends over at SmartShanghai tipped us off to the April 26 soft-opening of Obama Entertainment Club, a new nightlife venture that is self-professedly “probably…the biggest club in the city…”

UPDATE: Check out the video from the opening of Club Obama

Them’s fightin’ words, and it’s clear from Club Obama’s inspired logo that it will be a force to be reckoned with on the city’s debauched party scene.

One strike against it is its location in The Garden Plaza residential complex out on Gubei. But counteracting this and any other potential drawbacks, the venue is named after the most glamorous U.S. president since Rutherford B. Hayes.

Back in November, we had some suggestions for how President Obama could spend his down time during his first official visit to China. It’s a pity the eponymous club wasn’t open in time for Obama to enjoy it in person.

But wait a sec. Club Obama’s ad on SmartShanghai mentions that the soft-opening will be attended by a “special star guest from Ibiza.” If birthers are to be believed, it could be POTUS himself on the decks, spinning acid house and DnB, no doubt.
