The supermodel's guide: Where to shop in Seoul

Korea's top fashion darling Song Kyung-ah's favorite designers and hometown shops

It takes a lot of shopping finesse to find something that looks so good yet feels comfortable at the same time.

She's walked the runways from Paris to New York for the likes of Dior and Armani and was the face of MAC, Saks Fifth Avenue and Levi’s.

On top of all that, she's also a writer, painter and a prolific cartoonist.

And although it would probably be difficult to make any type of clothing look bad on that body, Korea's top supermodel Song Kyung-ah, 33, is extremely picky about shopping.

We asked Korea's top supermodel about her favorite fashion haunts and where to shop in Seoul.

CNN Travel:Who is your favorite Korean designer and why?

Song Kyung-ah: Steve J & Yoni P. They design the clothes best suited for the trendy Korean fashion market right now. They’re so lighthearted and enthusiastic and bursting with creativity, and I love the work that they do together. They add the trend factor to very simple, basic items.

CNN Travel:Where can you buy their clothes?

Song: I like to go to the second floor of Galleria Department Store, which has a select shop (Galleria Design Street) that sells designs by up and coming Korean designers.

CNN Travel: Where are some of your other favorite places to shop in Seoul?

Song: The selection at 10 corso como Seoul is amazing. When you walk in, you can identify all the trends at a glance.

They also have the coolest home products as well as a collection of great albums and art books. I usually shop for shoes and accessories there too.

Garosugil is another great place to shop in Seoul. Whenever I go there to hang out with friends or have business meetings, I make the rounds at all the small shops dotting the street.

My favorites are ALAND, which showcases a lot of work by new Korean designers, or MAGNMAG, which is a select shop with amazing prices.

CNN Travel: What do you think is different about Korean fashion?

Song: I think Seoul is unusually sensitive to trends and the speed at which they change is quite startling. Thus, rather than focusing on the tailoring, there’s more emphasis on color or accessorizing the clothes.

Personally, however, although I do like trends, I think there needs to be more focus on getting the basics right. I also wish there were more styles available than what is trendy at the moment.

However, in terms of quality for price, it's the best shopping in the world!

CNN Travel:
What are the criteria you look for when you shop?

Song: I'm always searching for clothes that can highlight my individuality, and what will cover up any shortcomings.

If your complexion is on the bright side, for example, then you should choose bright colors to complement it.

I also tend to buy looser fitting clothes in order to not look too thin.

And I never buy anything that doesn’t fit comfortably.
