India's hottest models adorn the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar 2010

The calendar can be a highly sought after stepping stone to fame and fortune in Bollywood

India's answer to the Pirelli calendar is out.

The annual edition of the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar from flamboyant liquor baron, airline owner and F1 team owner Vijay Mallya is one of the most glamorous end-of-year publishing events in India.

Mumbai celebrity photographer Atul Kasbekar has been shooting India's hottest faces and bodies since 2003 (at least of those women whose families wouldn't have a heart attack at the thought). It is widely perceived that you have made it as a model if you land this assignment -- which is only slimly disguised code for "show me the door to Bollywood."

Former model now Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone who appeared in the 2006 edition, unwrapped the 2010 calendar on Sunday. Asked by the Hindustan Times if featuring in the calendar was a good platform to enter Bollywood, Deepika said: "Well, I didn't use it as a platform to enter the film industry, so I wouldn't say that. You can't be a model to be an actor. That's not what I did. But yes, Farah noticed me as a model and then decided to cast me in "Om Shanti Om"."
