Hermès, the Parisian luxury label, is set to launch a limited-edition sari line at its Mumbai store on October 7.

Over a decade ago the brand designed its first sari collection in collaboration with Kolkata-based Sunita Kumar, who was spotted by Hermès chief Jean-Louis Dumas after Kumar made a sari by sewing several Hermès scarves together.

The 2011 Hermès sari collection was designed by artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas in their Lyon workshops and is priced from US$6,6134 or Rs 300,000 (plus taxes).

The collection includes four silk prints, with blouses purchased at an additional cost. These include, “New Springs" in mousseline fabric; “Fleurs Indiennes” in double mousseline, “Coupons Indiens” in cashmere and the “Patch” in silk twill.

Some have taken nearly nine hours of handiwork and will be presented in a specially created Hermès box.

The two-floor Mumbai Hermès store opened on July 20 this year and was designed by an architectural firm founded by Rena Dumas.

The upper floor is an art gallery, which opened with Karen Knorr's "Transmigrations", and has a small cafè space.

Hermès has stores in New Delhi and Pune as well.
