Schooling the privileged: The Peninsula launches 'The Lifestyle Academy'
Got the millions but not the millionaire style? Enroll at The Pen's new college for the art of spending
The Peninsula Hong Kong has launched "The Lifestyle Academy," a series of personalized "lessons" that will help you pick designer clothes, gourmet food and get better at golf.
“We created 'The Lifestyle Academy' to give guests the opportunity to experience a level of fun and insightful learning that will enable them to look, live and feel their absolute best," says Rainy Chan, general manager of Hong Kong's iconic hotel.
Because being able to have luxury is one thing, but being able to fully appreciate it like a connoisseur requires training.
The hospitality giant has enlisted in-house experts as well as consultants to lead workshops in personal style, etiquette for children, gastronomy, floral design and golf.

Go for a full overhaul and book the one-day total makeover, starting at HK$23,888. This is a customized "style journey" for general or specific style needs (going to dinner with Li Ka-shing?).
It isn't just a random shopping trip in a Rolls-Royce. Participants need to fill out a questionnaire beforehand so style experts Nick Troedson and Sam Roseman (formerly Shanghai Tang's international imperial tailoring manager) can focus an efficient schedule for an educational day that runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"Our consultants are very experienced and will create a very specific itinerary," says the Peninsula Hong Kong's spokesperson.
"Sometimes people are not sure what they want and need the authority to tell them what they look good in; take them out of their comfort zone a little bit."

There is also the relatively low commitment 90-minute caviar connoisseur class at HK$5,888 per person.
The Peninsula's group executive chef will take students on a Champagne-fueled magical mystery tour of the world's varieties of sturgeon roe and how to source, prepare and pair them with wines.
See www.peninsula.com/Hong_Kong for the full list of classes, including a helicopter golfing escapade, table settings class and kids' table manners lessons.
The Peninsula Hong Kong Lifestyle Academy is open to hotel guests as well as non-guests who are Hong Kong residents. The Lifestyle Academy for The Peninsula Beijing and Shanghai are set to launch this summer.
