13 Unfortunate Cookies -- fortune cookies with a sadistic twist
Alazizi Gallery's exhibition amuses audiences at the expense of traditional fortune cookies
Neophyte Hong Kong designer Alazizi’s exhibition “13 Unfortunate Cookies” is an irreverent twist on the posh wine-and-cracker culture that dominates the Hong Kong art scene.
Yes, they do give you finger food at the entrance -- but these are "unfortunate cookies," with missives containing bizarre predicaments. Among them: “Grabbed Snow White's breast at Disneyland. Got bloody clobbered by the Seven Dwarfs” and “Surgeon fxxed up my boob job - - now I have a left tit at my shoulder!!”
Harping on our tendency to laugh at other’s misfortunes, the exhibition wants viewers to think positively by laughing meanly at impossibly perverse situations.
Alazizi’s droll "unfortunate cookie" characters are plastered all over the gallery, constantly complain in text bubbles and are sure to give visitors a lift.
Visitors with a taste for more can buy a box of unfortunate cookies, priced at HK$150 each.
California-educated Alazizi is the founder of an art gallery and a design consulting firm in the United States. The “13 Unfortunate Cookies” show is his first art project in Hong Kong.
