Otto e Mezzo: Best place to eat white truffles in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's well-heeled foodies bid for some of Italy's largest and most expensive white truffles each year. It puts the city in the spotlight when white truffle season comes around every November and December.
Last year, Master of Wine Jeannie Cho Lee and a few friends bought a 900-gram giant truffle for more than HK$1 million at the 12th World White Truffle of Alba Auction.
On November 13, Hong Kong restaurant 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana will once again host the Hong Kong bidders for the annual World White Truffle of Alba Auction, linking by satellite to the Italian auction grounds.
A special white truffle menu is now available at Otto e Mezzo to take advantage of the seasonal fungi. Chef Umberto Bombana -- who has been hailed The King of White Truffle -- has created rustic dishes that best showcase its flavors.
Choose from a simple dish of scrambled eggs with mushroom jus (HK$590) or egg en cocotte with asparagus purée ($590) each topped with generous shavings of white truffle. Or up the ante with tajima beef tenderloin with foie gras, spinach, whipped potato and white truffle ($790).
