Once in a while, a property calling itself a boutique hotel really is a boutique hotel. The 1930s Shanghai décor at Shanghai Mansion in the middle of Chinatown has been executed flawlessly, from the antique furnishings to the colorful wallpaper.
Ignore the fact that there’s a small supermarket on the ground floor and that the rest of the neighborhood is a little gritty and a stay here will make you feel like a character in a Wong Kar Wei film.
Even if you (or your partner) aren’t quite as hot as Maggie Cheung or Zhang Ziyi, visitors will be too busy looking at the property to notice you.
