Highlights of the weekend festivities that lit up the nation as the world's longest reigning monarch turns 82
All over Thailand on December 5, fireworks lit up the sky in honor of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 82nd birthday. Thais demonstrated their love for the world's longest reining monarch by participating in a nation-wide candle light vigil, many wearing pink shirts. (Two years ago the country's royal astrologers said that the color pink was auspicious for the king's well-being.)
Check out our gallery above for just a few of the weekend highlights, including His Majesty's first public appearance since early November's Loy Krathong celebration.
The festivities aren't over yet. Various events in honor of His Majesty the King continue throughout the week till the 13th, including a massive pyrotechnics display and an impressive 4D show.
